DVR RDK does not include eth boot mode build steps / binaries. This is not tested in standard dvr rdk release. User should modify Makefiles for uboot build to enable this.
Refer this link - http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TI81XX_PSP_EMAC_Boot
Could you explain why DM816x does not require specific built uboot binaries? Is it just kind of difference of ROM? Why DM816x doesn't support booting from UART?
I am not sure if this wiki link is up to date. Refer the Feature_Performance guide in linux_lsp/collaterals/docs folder. There is table mentioning the boot modes supported. DVR RDK as such does not add any restriction to modes supported in standard PSP release.
