Interfacing ADC (>60MSPS) to OMAP138

Hi,

I am trying to design a board that will interface a high speed ADC to OMAP138

The ADC should be 10b @(>60MSPS), pereferably low power.

I would like to design it without glue logic if possible and verify the DSP can handle the 60MSPS and higher throughput.

Any idea on how to do it or design reference you can share ?

Yu,

This depends on whether the ADC has a serial or a parallel interface and the data transfer protocol needed. The serial ports (SPI/McBSP-I2S) on the OMAP-L138 can only go up to 50 MHz. Parallel interfaces (EMIF/uPP) can work at this clock rate.

So what you are actually saying is that even if I use parrallel interface the clock rate is 50MHz ?

What about throughput (in MB)?

If I use ADS5237 as recommended by TI (which has no control inputs), what rate of throughput can I count on ?

Is there any application notre or reference design on that matter ?

Yu,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your query. The uPP can support a max of 75 MHz clock. You can see this in the device datasheet (section5.26.2). There are some resources on our processors wiki that you can check out: Introduction to uPP, Using uPP in DSP/BIOS etc.

I guess the actual throughput of the uPP is much less than 75MSPS and there is no guranteed throughput..
