Reference design for UCD9222 with UCD74120

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9222, UCD7242, UCD74111, UCD74120, TMS320C6670

Hi,

I am currently designing my board which has two DSPs in which the CVDD is supplied by UCD9222 and UCD7242.

Due to the 10A limitations of the UCD7242, I am looking at using UCD74120 or the UCD74111.

May I know if there are any reference designs to connect up the UCD74120 with UCD9222 to supply voltage for the C6678?

Regards,

Allan

  • Hi Allan,

A reference for a core power design using the UCD74110 can be found on the Rev3 version of the TMS320C6670 EVM module.  A link to the documentation for that design can be found on the C6678 web page under the Design Kits & Evaluation Modules section.  The design information is actually located on the Advantech website at the following link. The UCD74111 is pin compatible with the UCD74110 and is the updated version of that part.

  • Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reference. I did not carefully match the pins of the UCD74110. The UCD74110 has 62 pins in the EVM datasheet. However, pins 41 to 62 are thermal pins which are not present on the UCD74111 and the UCD74120.

I would like to clarify if I can use the UCD74120 instead of the UCD74111? It appears the both items are pin to pin compatible and functions in exact same way. The only difference is that UCD74120 can have an output of 25A while UCD74111 has 15A. This will allow me to use the 1.25GHz C6678 for my future designs as it draws more power.

  • Hi Allan,

You should be able to use the UCD74120 if you need the higher current output.  That is the device we're currently using for our Keystone II devices that require more current.  I would check with the power supply team supporting the part for a more detailed answer.
