AM3359 IDK PowerLink with Power Panel 500

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3359

Hello,

I am testing the IDK for EtherCAT and PowerLink applications. EtherCAT demo is working nice (excpt that digital inputs are not read, confirmed in the code).
I am using the latest SDK (1.0.0.6) and I tried both prebuild binaries and binaries made by "myself".

For Powerlink, I can't get it working. My only PLC is a B&R Power Panel 500, which was tested the PowerLink slave demo app, according to the documentation.
I am not very familiar with the B&R hardware and I don't have any computer compatible with the openPOWERLINK live CD. I was able to declare the slave in Automation Studio but as for now, my PLC says the PowerLink slave is not connected.

Is it possible to get the PLC program which was used with the Power Panel 500 for your tests ? Or can you explain the procedure for Automation Studio ?

Regards,
Albin

  • Nobody use PowerLink with B&R Automation Studio here ?

  • Hello Albin Marchewka,

I have a PP500 setup with Powerlink slaves, which works very well. I understand you have Automation Studio as Powerlink master, but which slave are you using?

Which OS are you using on the PP500? Which Automation Studio Version do you have? Give me as much as you can?

    thx

    Franz Xaver Gruber

  • Hello Franz Xaver Gruber,

    B&R parts are for the PowerLink master : PP500 v2.0 (and internal 5PP5IF.FPLM-00 v2.1) with B&R runtime v4.01, Automation Studio 3.0.90.21 SP03

TI parts are for the PowerLink slave : AM3359 IDK running the PowerLink slave demo from the industrial SDK 1.0.0.6, with the given xdd file.

If you need more informations, ask me.

    Thanks,

    Albin Marchewka

  • I updated to SKD 1.0.0.7, but this has not changed anything.

  • Hello,

I called B&R and they informed me that PowerLink will never work on my IDK board :
    - chip is XAM3359, so experimental and rev 1.0
    - first version of the AM3359 PRUSS is not compatible for PowerLink

In fact, if you plan (like me) to buy an TMDXIDK3359 to evaluate PowerLink connectivity like advertised on the product page, you should wait few months in order to have new revision of the chip.
    EtherCAT connectivity is working well.

  • Hello Albin,

Thanks for your posts in the forums. Yes, XAM3359 is experimental silicon but from functionality wise, it should be similar to the production silicon. Once we do full qual/reliability/temp testing, then we'll have production devices and "X" in the P/N goes away. For rev1.0, these production devices are already available. As functionality is silmilar, it is a common practice for us to have development platforms with "X" silicon to get the boards to our customers quickly.

There's a new rev of silicon 2.0 but that shouldn't change a lot of things in the Powerlink functionality.

We did test this Powerlink slave against OperPowerlink master and some known issues are documented in the SDK release notes. You can refer to this to understand more on the features set implemented. Pl feel free to contact me at gurrapu@ti.com if any further questions,

Thanks for your interest in TI Industrial solutions,

    Best Regards,
