Another USB issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP3530

See below issues with usb head timed out.. causing my GSM/GPS module to stop working.

Once this happens it can only be reset by a hard reset. A reboot will not bring it back.

I am using a board heavily based on the BeagleBoard - omap3530
I am using 3.2 kernel from Robert Nelson repo.

Any ideas? Again - really stuck on this one and would love any help regarding where I might look to solve it.

Many thanks!

  • Hi CJ,

The problem maybe due to damaged USB device or controller but it maybe a software issue. Could you try to unplug and plug the USB GSM/GPS module and execute the commands:

    dmesg -s

    lsusb

    Then post the output.

    BR

  • Hi Tsvetolin,

Thanks for the response. The GPS module is miniPCIe so I can't unplug the USB part. I can unplug the module, and if I do this there is no error.

This is not an isolated problem with one board, it is on all the boards.

It looks to me like it might be an issue with the ACM driver in linux 3.2. I have also tested 3.5 and the same problem exists.

I am currently trying a SIERRA wireless unit which uses a proprietary driver - so far it has been fine. Which makes me think it is likely an ACM issue in the linux kernel.

Will update if the issue continues.. if it does I guess it means that there is a hardware design fault or a controller issue.

    Many thanks!

    CJ

  • Hi CJ.

do you have any update about this problem? I am having the same problem on the OTG port of pandaboard using kernel 3.4.0 when I plug in a sequans wimax modem. The error message kept appearing even when I have disconnected the modem from the OTG port.
