OMAP4460 camera support

Dear gentlemen,

We are working on a OMAP4460 custom desing with a dual camera (ov5640 and ov2655) on an Android ICS platform. While the two cameras are working fine in Linux kernel on the MIPI bus, I am not able to export them into Android. Inside Android I could see (in the camera module) two different flavours for connecting to a camera: USB (based on V4L) and OMX. How can I configure a camera to be seen as an OMX one? And, in addition, do I need some custom ducati firmware to enable them? Any suggestion will be helpful.

Hi Fabio,

you can choose between USB and OMX camera by setting OMAP4_CAMERA_HAL_USES to USB or OMX respectively. This is set in hardware/ti/omap4xxx/camera/Android.mk.

Thanks for your reply. You are right. As I said, USB and OMX are the two flavours that Android allow you to use for integrating a camera. My question is: how to define an OMX camera? I have the camera sensor driver inside the linux kernel, but this is not OMX. How can I add what is missing to obtain an OMX camera that Android could control?

OMX camera is implemneted in Ducati. Please work with your TI representative to get access to Ducati code.

Hi,

I have the same problem, in my case I need to select the usb camera (V4L based), driver is present at the kernel but in the android File system to do what changes i need to do exactly. even though I changed the option to OMAP4_CAMERA_HAL_USES to USB but still I am not able to get the USB camera capture.

I'm using the Omap4430 board with android JB 4.2 & logitec camera. 6242.Logcat_21_June_14.txt

OMAP4 Ducati Camera Sensor Adaptation Guide does not cover V4L camera since V4L is not controlled by Ducati.

For V4L adaptation, there is a class in CameraHAL which is open source code. This is all you need. Switch between OMX and V4L is a compile time decision, and default is OMX. Please make sure that you are building CameraHAL with V4L option.

Hi Sir,

Is that V4l class already existing in the android JB source code

I have done following changes in the Android source code

Enable USB Camera support in BoardConfig.mk. Also disable stub camera

   BOARD_USB_CAMERA := true
   #USE_CAMERA_STUB := true

Add the following entries in device.mk

#Camera
PRODUCT_PACKAGES += \
        camera.omap3 \
Gave permissions to /dev/video0 also . but still I am not able to capture the images from the usb camera. Please help me.

kernel changes that I made

  CONFIG_USB_VIDEO_CLASS=y
  CONFIG_USB_VIDEO_CLASS_INPUT_EVDEV=y
