BeagleBoard-xM without OS

Dear all,

I have bought Chassaing's book "Digital Signal Processing and Applications with the C6713 and C6416 DSK". I'm sure a lot of you heard about it. It also includes some very use full examples for the kit mentioned in this book. I would like to know if these can be ported to the BeagleBoard-xM. What I mean is if the board is capable of being programmed with CCS and operate without an OS like Linux, etc, to do specific tasks.

If it's possible, can some one tell me if any initialization code is needed for the board to work as a standalone?

One last thing, what I had in mind is to grab an input from a camera and do some changes to the video with the help of the DSP. Now, if I may ask, is it possible to use OpenCV code within the CCS, for example writing a code for face detection executed directly by the DSP without the need of any additional OS installation as I previously asked? Is it possible to use a USB camera to get the video from, since there would be the need to install the camera's drivers I guess? Also how difficult is it to do all of this?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Rob.
