Analoge to digitial configeration

I am presently working on Spectrum digital 816x/389x EVM. I want to configure an IR sensor to the board. For that i need to configure analoge to digital convertor.

I went through the datasheet of dm816x but unable to find the ADC.

In this regard please help me out.

Hi Vineet,

There is no ADC peripheral module in the DM816X. What exactly IR sensor are you trying to connect? There is an IR receiver connected to UART1_RXD on the EVM board.

well all i trying to do is to interface the IR Sensor with the board as we do in normal board and based on that i like to take some action like lighting of led or changing signal on other GPIO. BUT as you are telling that there are no ADC module present on the board then would you please tell me how we are going to achieve the same thing on the board

Hi Biser

I am not using any prebuild IR sensor module. What i am doing is i am having Infra red transmitter and receiver led which i am going to configure on the bread board . The output obtained is analoge so in order to convert the analoge output to digital i need ADC so that i can program my controller to do some task.

Hi Vineet,

As I understand it, you are talking about converting the analog IR receiver output. Why don't you use a standard IR receiver with digital output, like the one on the EVM board? It's part number is TSOP34840 (page 34 of the EVM main board schematics). Or why don't you use the IR receiver on the EVM itself?

thanks for reply ,but i have small doubt . In case of IR sensor i can use the IR receiver on board but what if i like to interface any analoge device like LDR, As you are saying that there is no ADC present on board does that mean that i can't interface any other analoge device like joystick with the board?

Hi Vineet,

In this case you will have to build an external ADC board and connect it to one of the expansion headers on the I/O board. You can download the EVM schematics from http://support.spectrumdigital.com/boards/evm816x/reve/.
