Can RTC_PWRONRSTn be connected Digital GND when RTC feature disabled?

Guru 10570 points

Hello, Biser-san.

May I have a confirmation?

You were answered on below url:
http://e2e.ti.com/support/arm/sitara_arm/f/791/t/222381.aspx
"RTC_PWRONRSTn should be driven together with PORZ, because the RTC module still needs to be reset even if not used."

But, there is description that when RTC feature disabled, RTC_PWRONRSTn can be connect Digital GND on Wiki: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_Schematic_Checklist#RTC
RTC_PWRONRSTn .. Digital GND (RTC feature disabled)

I think that your answer in the past was for safety design at that time.
And, I think RTC_PWRONRSTn can be Digital GND now.
Because it is confirmed by TI. So it describes on wiki now.

Can I confirm that whether RTC_PWRONRSTn can be connected Digital GND when RTC feature disabled?

Best regards, RY

  • Hi RY,

As far as I know RTC_PWRONRSTn can not be connected to Digital GND when the RTC feature is disabled. I don't know if the wiki information is new related to the post you mention. I will ask the factory team and let you know.
  • Biser-san,

    Thanks a lot!
    I am waiting your feedback.
    Thank you again!

    Best regards, RY

  • Please reference the latest AM335x Data Sheet, AM335x Silicon Errata, and AM335x Schematic Checklist for information related to RTC usage and requirements.

Previous discussions in the post you referenced said RTC_PWRONRSTn terminal should always be driven together with the PWRONRSTn terminal even when the RTC is not used.  Later it was determined the RTC_PWRONRSTn terminal could be permanently connected to VSS when the RTC is not used.  This information was updated in the AM335x Schematic Checklist, but not in the forum post.

    Regards,
    Paul

  • Paul-san, Biser-san,

Thank you very much for your answer.
    I appreciate your strong support.
