AM335x. Is using J10 + ttyO0 as console + LCD possible?

Hello Community,

I've read trough several threads in this forum but no final solution was given so far, so I'm just going to ask the question my way and maybe someone will be able to answer it.

I'm trying to use connector J10 as a 2nd UART but still keep ttyO0 untouched.

As far as i read, it should be possible to use this connector in Profile 2.

The LCD needs to work as well at the same time.

I had a fast look trough the pinmuxing-tools, but since i never used anything like that before,I dont really want to tough it, if possible.

So my question is:

Is it possible to use untouched ttyO0 as console, J10 as UART and LCD at the same time?

If it requires pinmuxing, do i need to compile the kernel again after changing the pinmux-configuration?

Hi Sebastian,

I suppose you are asking about the AM335X GP EVM. There is no profile that matches your requirement exactly. J10 that you ask about is marked as UART1 on the schematics, but at the same time UART1 is used for Bluetooth in all profiles. In any case it will be necessary to make hardware modifications to the boards (install and remove some resistors), and I am not sure that the CPLD that's used for profile configuration will route the signal from UART1 to J10.

Yes I am using AM335x GP EVM.

Would it be possible to use J12 or J14 instead of J10 cause it doesnt necessarily need to be J10.

Im asking this, because I dont really want to make hardware modifications.

J12 and J14 will conflict with the LCD too.

From checking the EVM pin assignment (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_General_Purpose_EVM_HW_User_Guide#Pin_Use_Description) spreadsheet (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/images/f/f0/Am335x_gpevm_pinuse.zip) I see that in Profile #2 GPMC_WAIT0 and GPMC_WPn are muxed to UART4, but I have no idea where this comes out on the daughterboard.
