HPIC access error

Hi everybody,

I try to program the DSP tms320C5510 from the FPGA using HPI boot mode; however, i run into a HPIC access problem. I can read and write DSP memory successfully, but not HPIC. For these accesses, DSP never asserts the HRDY. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I attach some waveforms captured from Xilinx chipscope. Please note that the first 5 signals are HCSn, HDSn, hpi_addr_21 (HCNTL0), hpi_addr_20 (HR/Wn) and hrdy.

What is the address for your HPIC? During boot, the EHPI host has only access to memory block word address from 0x000060h to 0xFFFFFh. Please refer to Data Manual & Bootloader Apps Note.

According the spec, the HPIC is addressed by the HCNTL0 pin (logic 0 and in my timing capture, it is labeled "hpi_addr_21") & Hr/wn (hpi_addr_20 in the capture). Again, the HPID or memory access during boot work fine, but not the HPIC.

I think you are refering to the normal DSP to host operation which HPIC register accesses by HCNTL0 = 0. During boot, the EHPI host has only access to memory block word address from 0x000060h to 0xFFFFFh.

Yes this is for HPI boot mode. The host has to clear the reset bit in the HPIC register after loading the data. I don't think i have issue with memory accesses within the SARAM range. However, i don't seem to receive any response ready from DSP if i try to access the control (HPIC) by using the HCNTL0=0.

If i understand you correctly, during boot time, the HPI can't access HPIC using HCNTL0, but it has to address directly. Could you please tell me what the address of the HPIC is so that we can clear the reset bit in the register.
