What mode does GbE switch subsystem support in C6678?

Hi,

On page 18 of user guide of:

KeyStone Architecture Literature Number: SPRUGV9B

July 2012

Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) Switch Subsystem

it says:

The gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch subsystem does not support 1000 MHz half duplex mode

I do not see what mode it supports. I am new to this module. Could you give more explanation on this? Thanks,

  • Hi Robert

There are different versions of the GbE for each device. For 6678 it has the 3 port GbE. This means it supports the 10/100/1000 speeds for the SGMII interfaces, and that the half duplex is support only in the 10/100 speeds only. 1000 is full duplex.

When in half duplex, the RX flow is collision based. In full duplex it is handled by using the protocol pause frames. To quote the guide, "In either case, receive flow control prevents frame reception by issuing the flow control appropriate for the current mode of operation. The MAC module is configured for collision or IEEE".

Feel free to ask any more questions you might have on this module!
