DM8168 booting from eMMC or SATA SSD

Hello,

Can the DM8168 boot directly from eMMC or SATA SSD?

    Hi Krzysztof,

    No, DM8168 can not boot directly from SATA.  http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/717/t/221521.aspx

    For the hardware capabilities, you can check the DM816x TRM, chapter 25 ROM Code Memory and Peripheral Booting, where the available memory and peripheral booting is documented.

    For eMMC, you can check section 25.7.4 SD Cards

    An SD card can be connected to interface #1 typically through a card cage.
    Notes:
    • It may be possible to design the system so that an eSD memory type is connected to interface #1. However, the dual voltage IOs feature of interface #1 dedicates it preferably to cards.

    25.7.4.4 Booting Procedure

    The high level flowchart of the eSD and SD booting procedure is depicted in Figure 25-17. The booting file is searched only in case of booting from a card. eSD embedded memories only support raw mode.
