XAM3359ZCZ vs AM3352ZCZD72 Power Consumption

I have a design based on the AM3352ZCZD72, but the current draw of this part is much higher than that of the starter kit which uses a XAM3359. I am powering the AM3352 with a TPS65217C as shown in its appnote. Is there a real difference in power consumption between these two parts? The design uses the AM3352, DDR3, and 2 Ethernet Phys.

Hi Tim,

The XAM parts are experimental devices that are not necessarily representative of the final device's electrical specifications and may not use production assembly flow. To check your power consumption you can use the http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_Power_Estimation_Tool. Some useful figures about power consumption can also be found here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_Power_Consumption_Summary.

Thanks for your response. I have read the summary and submitted a PET. The PET does not account for DDR3 nor 2 Ethernet MACs. It does not discern XAM from AM parts.

Given that the XAM parts are experimental, are they lower power than production since they are used on all TI Demo boards? Do you have a Demo board with a AM3352 production part?
