VTP Compensation Resistor

The AM335x datasheet specifies this external part as a "49.9 ohm 1%, 20mW reference resistor". A 402 resistor (49.9, 1%, 100ppm, 0.1W) fits the specified requirements.

Yet, the Starter Kit board uses a MELF resistor with these characteristics: 49.9, 1%, 50ppm, 0.3W. It is larger than a 0603 resistor.

Any idea why the MELF is used on the starter kit DDR circuit?

Regards,

Russ

  • Hi Russ,

No particular reason I think. Here is what is used on different EVM's:

    GP EVM, IDK: Vishay FC0402E50R0FST1 (50Ohm 1% 50mW 0402)
    Beaglebone: Yageo RC0402FR-0749R9L (49.9Ohm 1% 62.5mW 0402)
ICE, SK: The same MELF that you ask about.

So as you see there is no particular requirement, more a question of choice/price/availability.
