AM335X PCB layout

Hi,

I have seen board layouts for Beaglebone , sitara Starter kit and beaglebone Black and noticed that the area below the processor was not occupied by any other IC except the decaps. Is there any specific instruction or recommendation that that area should be left out , I did not find any in the Datasheet.

Has it got to do something with BGA routing ?? Please help, need some pointers over this problem.

  • Yes, your board constraints for your particular board will dictate much of what your layout will look like.  However, the breakout of the processor ball pattern will require you to allow proper routing channels not only for the signals but also adequate copper for the power connections.  Placing the decoupling capacitors close to the processor balls will usually provide you with cleaner power.  You will find that once you use the routing space up for the necessary signal routing to the balls and to power connections, there is not much space for other components.  It also helps minimize crosstalk from noisy signals of other components by keeping this area clear.
