Video Analytics

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM385

Hi All,

I've worked with the DM368 for quite some time now, and use the face detect / recognition features.  I'm considering a new design based on the DM8127, DM8148, or DM8168.  I'm having trouble finding a list of the video analytics features available in each of these chips.  I found a topic at http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/716/p/147583/930437.aspx#930437 and posted there, but did not receive a response (old topic I guess).  I also found a video covering the DM385 that specifically mentioned that the DM385 has face detect, but NOT face recognition.

I have the DM368 IPNC-MT5, and will probably purchase the TMDSIPCAM8127J3 if the capabilities I'm looking for are there.

Thanks...

  • As a follow-up:

I found a training video at http://trainingcenter.ti.com/ti/training/cplayer?4&umfid=d0e11401-b017-4bae-80d5-b3b3cf64a4f7 that says "Face recognition is not supported on DM385", but it didn't mention the DM8127.  It says that face detection is support.  In part 1 of the same training series, a slide speaks of installing the "DM385 / DM8127" IPNC RDK.  Adding to the complication, I don't see a DM8127 on the available parts list, yet Appro offers IPNCs with both the DM8127 and the DM385.  So, is the DM8127 obsolete?  Is it the same part as the DM385?  Or is there some other explanation?

So, what DM3xx or DM8xxx parts support face recognition?  I already know about the DM368*F*.

    Thanks...

  • John,

DM8127 is not obsolete. Also Face detection is supported in DM8127.

DM8127 has a DSP, dual EMIF(for DDR3) and SGX (GPU) when compared to DM385. So, if you have bandwidth hungry algorithms then 8127 will be better option.

  • Hi Renijth,

Thanks for your reply. I received a few business development email addresses, so I'll contact them (from my other post).  The DM368 I'm hoping to upgrade from supports face recognition, but only to 720p.  I was looking for 1080p, so Ill look further at the DM8127.  Local analytics are a big part of my application, so the more DSP & graphics power I have, the better.

    Thanks again!
