HI Sai Kamat,

JPEG encoder and decoder are developed and these are in production. Binaries are freely available to download at http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/codecs/DM36x/index_FDS.html

And you will get good support to integrate them in your system. If you are looking for your own JPEG codec development or source code you need contact you local TI FAE or sales.

The datasheets indicate two video co-processors HDVICP & MJCP engines. Is this the hardware where image compression occurs? I would like to know the hardware responsible for JPEG compression. Also, how can one communicate with that hardware.

Hi,

JPEG compression/decompression happens on MJCP engine. As a codec user you need not worry much about accessing this, Codec will take care of this. Its similar to doing compression on any other TI device(like DSP).

Pl download JPEG codec from above shared link and have a look at file based testapp shared with codec package. It shows how to use the codec.
