Pandaboard ES Ubuntu doesn't create any /dev/ttyACMX

Hi guys,

I'm using Pandaboard ES REV B2 + expansion capacitive touch by chipsee.
I flashed my SD with ubuntu12.04 they modified to support the LCD touchscreen.
(Original image used ubuntu-12.04-preinstalled-desktop-armhf+omap4.img.gz )
Everything seems work great. When i plug-in some usb devices such as : my arduino, my usb webcam..etc, and type: $ dmesg, and even, lsusb i see
ubuntu can recognize the devices (see attached file) but it doesn't create any files in /dev as: dev/ttyACMX (or dev/ttyUSB0) for arduino, or /dev/videoX for my webcam.
i also tried to launch an opencv example changing cap.open(X) with X from 0 to 10 but nothing....no webcam found!!!
I don't know if it's a kernel problem....
I don't really know how to solve it....!!!!!
Could Someone help me???
  • Hi,

    1) Did you solve your problem?

2)I need a modified image of Ubuntu 12.xx I can export via dd command, I don't have a linux box to run the script the companion CD provide. Did you know from where can I download?

    Thanks.

  • Hi.

    1) I did the same question on pandaboard Google group and i solved the problem. Here is the link : https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/pandaboard/QZ3eLi67jaU.

2)if i got what you mean, you don't have any linux host to flash the SD card , do you? if so install linux on a VM in a Windows or MacOS pc. Did you buy Chipsee LCD touchscreen for your pandaboard?

  • Hi Giorgio,

    Thanks for the answer.

And yes I buy one for my Pandaboard. Sincerely I refuse install VM on my MAC, time ago I have many troubles with Virtualbox and finally I need to reinstall the entire OSX. In MAC I can flash an image via dd command, I usually do  that for Pandas and Beagle boards, but I need an prebuild image, in the case of Chipset companion disk the image need to be composed running an script that is possible only in a Linux box.

    Cheers.

  • You are right, Hector.....Virtual box, in my MAC, gave my a lot  of pain too.  Finally i installed VMWARE. It works like a charm. it could be extreme but (for my robotics project) i did also a dual boot on my macbook with ubuntu 12.04 without problems. however it's hard to find some "Cheepse prebuild" around the web.

    Try...maybe you're lucky.

    Bye!
