Using Ethernet offload driver and DSP ALG link at the same time on DM8168?

Hi,

I just got the DVRRDK 4.0 package and found that there's a new feature to use DSP to do some network offloading calculation.

It seems to be a great help in our application.

However, we are now using DSP ALG link to attach OSD on video frames.

And in "Limitation" section of the page 1 of the document "DVR RDK 4.00 GA App Notes Ethernet Offload Driver",

it says "In DM816x, when eth_offload driver is enabled, c6x DSP cannot be used for any other purpose other than ethernet offload".

Does it mean I can't use Ethernet offload driver and DSP ALG link at the same time?

If yes, is there any other suggested way to do OSD?

Is there any plan to make these two task working at the same time?

If Ethernet offload feature is used then other links like OSD cannot be run on DSP.The Ethernet offload feature is meant for NVR applications. There is no solution presently to run OSD and Ethernet offload simultaneously. The Ethernet offload driver uses busy waits in the code which makes the DSP loading 100% preventing anything else from running on the DSP.We are looking at the changes to support running ethoffload driver in parallel with other links on DSP but there is no plan yet on making a release supporting ETH offload with other links running simultaneously on DSP.

Hi,

I found there's a module parameter "gso_enable=0" in the eth_offload_load.sh script,

but the meaning of this parameter is not mentioned in the documents.

Could someone kindly explain the meaning of this parameter?

GSO is explained in this article:http://lwn.net/Articles/188489/

GSO feature is work in progress and is not supported in RDK 4.0 release. Dont enable it unless feature is documented in the Ethernet offload app note.
