UART initialization and usage in ASM

Hi,

I am working with a omap4460 (part of pandaboard es 1.1) and I need to write some ASM code to initialize an UART port and to put several bytes on the UART line (preferrably inside a while loop). Does anyone have resources or hints how to accomplish this?

Shall I write it in c and look at the assembly or are there better ways to accomplish this?

Best Regards,

André

  • Hello André,

Please refer to chapter 24.3.5 of the TRM for the programming model of the UART controller. This section shows you the sequence of register writes that are required to set up the controller for the desired functionality. This only provides examples for basic feature support and does not cover the more advanced features of the controller. Please also be aware that you must have also enabled the ICLK/FCLK and pin/pad configuration for the UART controller instance you are using before you can start to initialize and configure the UART controller itself.

  • Hi,

thanks a lot for this explanation. Just what I needed! I'll try to get along with the info provided and I will report back if I get stuck.

    Best regards,
