Does C6748 = OMAP-L138 at the silicon level

We are currently using the C6748 DSP. We are seeing weird lockup issues that appear to be HW related. As an experiment, we are considering populating a few boards with the OMAP-L138 (since they are pin compatible) and see what happens. However this experiment would be moot if the two parts shared EXACTLY the same silicon for most of the peripherals (I understand the OMAP part has the ARM core that the C6748 doesn't have). In particular, we are interested if the DDR2 controller is EXACTLY the same between the C6748 and the OMAP-L138.

Hi Dean,

Yes. Its exactly same between the C6748 and OMAP-L138.

C674x is a DSP-only part. C674x has TI's next generation unified core C674x that takes advantage of all the enhanced features of the fixed point C64x+ core, and that of the C67x+ floating point core.
OMAP-L13x is a DSP + ARM part. The DSP part of OMAP-L13x is C674x.

Just be careful that you need to setup AISgen for the OMAP-L138. There are procedures and lab files associated on how to do this:

Hi Dean,

C6748 is a DSP boot device(on reset the DSP comes up first) while OMAPL138 is an ARM boot device (on reset the ARM comes up first so to run DSP code the ARM needs to bring DSP out of reset and provide entry point to the application.)
