GPS MODULE IN OMAP4430

hi,

I am using OMAP4430 PANDA BOARD. i want to bring up the GPS module in that but the chip which present in that board doesn't support GPS rather than wifi and bluetooth. Is that posible to bring up the GPS module in the OMAP4430 using any external chipset. if it so, can you please tell me what chip i have to use to bring up the module, also the kernel doesn't have the gps driver support in it can you please tell me the procedure to download the GPS driver code.

Hi.

You can use external GPS chipset for example via UART connection, and work with it as usual serial device. So you don't need any additional kernel driver.

We connect GPS receiver to OMAP4460 in that way and it works fine....

I am using Chipsee board which have the slot for sim5320 that supports GPS and WCDMA. do I wanna install any module to access the GPS using UART.

Hi.

Sorry, i didn't understand what you've tried to say :) Please try to make it more clear.

If this board has one of OMAP4460's UART pins ont board connectors, you can connect external GPS reciever directly to this pins with may be some of level translations.

We use GPS/GLONASS receiver in that way - connect UART's pin and couple of GPIO's.....it's easy enough and you dont need any proprietary driver as it's working as serial device.

Are you sure that sim5320 has GPS capabilities?

I see only A-GPS in its specification...but if i understand correctly A-GPS isn't standalone solution and depends on cell operator information...it isn't good solution i think.
