am335x starter kit newbie questions

I just got my dev kit (am335x starter kit) and have a shell (telnet) open on it where I checked teh linux version. This is reported as 3.2.0.

When I build a simple (thread-ex sample app) c module with the installed tools (ti-sdk) and check teh file with 'file', it reports that the executable is built for 'GNU/Linux 2.6.16.

I have not put it on the board yet but am wondering if I have an old version of the sdk or something misconfigured. I think the linux version and the tools would be on the same version.

Am I in the weeds before I get started here?

Hi Richard,

You won't have any problems. Even on your desktop machine (using kernel 3.2), if you run the "file" command on some of the executables, you will find out that their version is also 2.6.x. I guess this is because there was a big version "jump" in 2011 between Linux 2.6.39 and Linux 3.0, but there weren't any major technological changes between the two versions.

I guess it just freaked me out that I missed a major revision in the kernel.
