AIF2 support for LTE UE Downlink timing offset

Hi,
We are evaluating c6670 to implement LTE multi UE emulator. Can AIF2  support UE downlink timing offset correction?
  • Hi,

I'm not LTE system expert, so I have no idea how UE can check downlink timing offset from downloading data. AIF2 as an interface between DSP and Radio Antenna, it support separate Radio timer and different timing offset for DL and UL and also support AxC offset so that we can make internal radio data delay between BTS and RH, but I'm sure either how it can be applied to UE level.

  • Question on AIF2:

Consider eNB operating on LTE Radio frame(10 ms). Now UE is turned on at some random point, it also operates on 10 ms radio frame.  As part of initialization process, UE checks for a known sequence (preamble data) from the eNB data, at the end of this procedure, UE will know the offset at which it is operating w.r.t eNB.

Figure above shows the eNB and UE having different starting point and it is not synchronized.

After the sync process, UE finds the radio frame offset, to operate in sync with the eNB.  Can AIF2 be used to make this timing offset correction on the fly.

  • Q: Can AIF2 be used to make this timing offset correction on the fly?

TI: No it is not possible. AIF2 and DSP interfaces do not care about UE frame offset. it is a job of UE application or BTS application to calculate and compensate the offset from high level SW.   AIF2 only support fiber offset compensation between BTS and RRH.
