Best OS for getting to know the Industrial Communication Engine (ICE and PRUs)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSBIOS

Hi All,

I am about to start a fascinating journey in industrial communication and networking technology, and I am wondering what would be the best operating system to really get to know to do this? I see some work on the Beagle board was done in Linux and Android. I also see a lot of users that use SYSBIOS on the ICE. So, the question is, WHICH ONE SHOULD I LOOK AT?

I am trying to get the PRUs re-programmed to do things that they have never done before! I am trying to implement a custom application on these cores and since I am new to this I was hoping someone would be able to tell me in which OS I would find the most help from the community. Where would I find the best examples of how to program the PRUs? What OS are users using when programming these? I know they can only be programmed in assembly, but how do I get these programs into them? Who can help?

I am looking at SYSBIOS since that is a real time OS and is probably what I will stay with in the long haul (due to cost, stability etc), but are there easier ways to get started and then later make the switch?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanx

TK
