TMDSEVM6678LE fails the quick start guide

I bought this EVM (TMDSEVM7778LE rev 3B) new in July 2013. Followed the quick start guide and nothing happens in Hyperterminal (win XP)

COM 4 is mapped to USB.

All I want is to boot this DSP and step thru the code in assembly as it comes out of reset. It shouldn't be this hard.

A few years ago the debugger was a standalone app. (and the user guide a yellow book.). Anyway, how do I establish the connection

between CCS and the EVM board?

Felix,

Are you plugged into the correct USB ports? The Emulation Port on the LE board is on the Mezzanine card and the COM4 is going through the USB port on the main board.

You should try the demo first w/o CCS connected and with the dip switches set the way that's indicated in the quick start guide. The board should boot from flash and run the demo w/o CCS being connected. Please give this a try first.
