How to convert a project from 6713 to 6747?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I have a project that uses a 6713 and I need to convert it to use a 6747. It is supposed to be code compatible but you can’t compile a 6713 project and load it onto a 6747. I tried to edit the TCF file and change any occurrences of 6713 to 6747 but then I get an error that 6747.TCI does not exist, where can I get the file(s) I need?

I also tried creating a new TCF file, but when it comes time to select a platform the 6747 does not show up. The instructions say to create a new platform you must check a text file and find your processor and see what file you should start from, but there again 6747 is not mentioned.

So how to I convert from 6713 to 6747? I’m using CCS3.3.81.6

  • Lester,

    - for having CCS and BIOS support for C6747 you need to have either the CCS version shipping with the evm, or the full version + SR12, and use BIOS 5.33.03 or later

This is mentioned in the getting started guide, please see

    http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Getting_Started_Guide_for_C6747

    - 3.3.81.6 is SR 11, please see also:

    http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/CCStudio_FAQ#Q:_How_can_I_find_out_which_CCStudio_3.3_Service_Release_number_is_installed.3F

    - I don't believe all the BIOS examples in the BIOS tutorial might have been updated to include the C6747 device, but you should find most of them in the latest BIOS install.

There should be other code examples also in the provided SDK (BIOS PSP) for C674x

    - the device architectures are quite radically different as there are two generations of floating point DSPs in between - the CPUs are code compatible (C674x ISA is a "superset" of C67x) but internal memory architecture, EDMA etc are not (compare the datasheets) so some porting will be eneeded - however the BIOS APIs should not have all changed that much.

Using a native C674x BIOS seed might help to get you started.

Looking at the PSP examples will also be useful since the drivers are all BIOS based

  • I updated to R12 and got the new bios. I was then able to create a new TCF file. I'm getting a new error now and googling it looks like it is a build options problem but I can't figure it out.

    Here is the error.

Project build options do not match Global configuration settings.
Compiler options do not specify -mv64+, but configuration is for
               C64x+
.emsg "Project build options do not match Global configuration settings.  Compiler options do not specify -mv64+, but configuration is for C64x+"

"DolbyENcoder_6747cfg.s62", ERROR!   at EOF: [E0300] The following symbols are
                                                         undefined:
2 Assembly Errors, No Assembly Warnings
      GBL_L2MARMASK
      HWI_INTRMULTHIGH
      HWI_INTRMULTLOW

Under Build Options I have it set for C67x+.  I have also tried C674x but I get a a page full of errors that way. I also tried C670x, but still get the original errors.

So what should it be set to? Or is it another problem?

  • Thanks, that brings up another question.

"C:/CCStudio_v3.3/C6000/csl/include/csl_chiphal.h", line 267: fatal error: #error NO CHIP DEFINED (use -dCHIP_XXXX where XXXX is chip number, i.e. 6201)

There is no 6747 in the file above. Do I need a newer version of the file, or do I use another chip?

    Thanks

    Ringo

  • Hi Ringo,

As Giancarlo suggested, the CSL was made for other set of parts, not for C674x. At this point, I think it is worth reinforcing:

    - Some of our DSPs have the software based on CSL (chip support library)

    - For most of our newest components, PSP (platform support package - DSP/BIOS drivers)  replaced CSL

The software architecture is very different, so although it would be possible to adapt the "old" CSL to work with C674x, it might be a lot of work.

Have you considered using PSP? It is a big change, but it might save you some time at the end. To install the PSP for C6747, please see:

    http://tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Getting_Started_Guide_for_C6747

  • The getting started guide says to install C674x_dsp_setupwin32_1_00_00_10.exe, but no link to it. It is not on the 6747 EVM CD and I jsut did a search on the TI website and did not find it. Can someone point me to it? as well as a document that says what changes I have to make to use it?

  • I believe the EVMs ship with a little card that has a link to a site which effectively turns into http://www.ti.com/myregisteredsoftware where you input a product code that comes with the starter kit. Once you have entered this you should be able to "Manage" your product (the Starter Kit) and get updates for that board. This includes the C674x setup you mentioned.

*edit* Alternately, if you cannot find the product code I mentioned you can request access here: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/sdk-omaplxc674x.html
