When is battery back-up needed for OMAP4 based systems

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TWL6032

We are trying to determine whether a specific OMAP4 system requires a backup battery. The TWL6032 spec states that it is optional.

  • It backs up the real-time clock, but this can be reloaded over the air from the network
  • The TWL6032 spec states that the backup battery powers “other secure registers”. What does this mean?

What would we lose if these weren’t battery backed?
