Running S-video and LCD simultaneously on Beagle xM?

I was wondering if any Beagleboard xM users have successfully run their targets with both S-video out and LCD display working simultaneously.  I've been able to get each output type to work correctly separately by setting my u-boot's "omapdss.def_disp" variable to be either "lcd" or "tv".  I can also get the s-video out to output "black" while the system displays content on the LCD panel by doing this post-boot-up command when omapdss.def_disp=lcd:

echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/omapdss/display1/enabled

where "../display0" corresponds to "gfx", "../display1" to "tv", "../display2" to "lcd".  I looked through the OMAPDSS documentation but have not been able to get s-video to output anything but black when the LCD panel is selected as the default OMAP display.

So my questions are:

1--Is it possible to get the s-video to display what's showing on the LCD at the same time?

2--If yes, can each output's display buffer be independently controlled, i.e. rotated?

I am using an Angstrom 2.6.32-based kernel on a Beagleboard xM (rev. C) that is connected to a custom interface card with 480x640 LCD panel.

Thanks,

Sam

  • I did find a DSS sysfs example that I was able to replicate on my target.  This particular example, "Enable dual display on LCD and TV", would direct the GFX pipe to TV out and the video pipe to LCD:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/DSS2_SYSFS_Examples#Setting_framebuffer_to_overlay

I was also able to adapt this example to output the GFX layer to LCD and video layer to TV out by swapping the roles of overlay0 and overlay1.  I'm still trying to get the video pipe to output both to LCD and TV out, but so far have only seen some DSS sysfs examples which clone the GFX layer to allow it to displayed on both LCD and TV.

I suspect that cloning the video pipe to both outputs is probably is bit more involved, where maybe a 2nd instance of OMAP frame buffer is needed, i,e, /dev/fb1.  Though I need try some experiments with this, I assume one could, for example, direct /dev/fb0 to output to LCD and /dev/fb1 to TV out.  You would then need to copy the video layer image (and possibly apply a rotation if needed) into /dev/fb1 to get it to show up on the TV output.

Anyway, if anyone has a video pipe cloning example/approach for DSS that they could share that would be great, but meanwhile I'll look into adding /dev/fb1.
