Status of NAND driver (8-bit ECC & DMA) in linux branch

Would be great if we could get 8-bit ECC support as well as the DMA-tweaks/speed-ups discussed here: AM335x NAND prefetch engine: speed breakdown due to data cache writeback integrated into the main TI linux branch.

The industry seems to move from 34nm to 25nm NAND's like MT29F2G08ABAFAH4:F this will also switch from 4-bit ECC to 8-bit.

Another question, Micron still has some nands with "on-die ECC". Any thoughs on how this would perform vs the AM335x GPMC.

Bumping this one with an addition.

OOB on MT29F2G08ABAFAH4:F is 224 bytes while on "older" nand's OOB is 64bytes.

We've successfully booted with NAND's with 4-bit ECC (64b OOB), but seems we run into trouble when RBL is trying to boot (NAND is first in order) and just jumps to the next in the boot-sequence. I was under the impression this is all solved via ONFi.

Any input appreciated.

Hi Anthony,

I read through that thread. Seems like it's mostly discussing BCH16 and from what I can see it's not been released in the TI PSP/SDK yet. We're running OpenWRT so pulling and patching in the TI things. We'll look into merging with the patch-files mentioned in the last post by Pekon here: http://e2e.ti.com/support/arm/sitara_arm/f/791/t/214942.aspx?pi239031349=3

Please note we're on Micron MT29F2G08ABAFAH4:F (8-bit ECC / 224 bytes OOB).
