HDVPSS Firmware. DCMM locks up on warm boot, works fine on cold boot

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PCF8575, TPS65910

Hello,

I've recently loaded up the HDVICP2, and the HDVPSS firmware. If I perform a cold boot (Power on/off) the firmware loads and the DCMM works as expected.

However, if I tap the RESET_SW on the DM8148...it hangs at the DCMM.

It looks to me that something isn't being reset properly from the physical RESET_SW.

Any clue as to how to get around this?

Thanks!

Dave

However, if I tap the RESET_SW on the DM8148...it hangs at the DCMM.

You mean the RESET SW button on the DM814x EVM expansion I/O board (SW1), right?

When I press this button, the reset procedure is completed successfully on my DM814x EVM:

Are you on EZSDK 5.05.02.00? Have you made any modifications of your u-boot, kernel image (uImage) or rootfs?

    BR
    Pavel

  • Hi Pavel,

Yes, I'm on EZSDK 05.05.02.00. I also just changed my uboot from the one in the SDK, to the latest in Arago marked u-boot-omap3. That does coincide when this issue popped up.

    Can you help?

    Thanks

    Dave

  • Dave,

Can you send me your uboot (you can attach it here), I want to try it on my side.

What is the revision of your Expansion I/O board? Mine is rev D.

    BR
    Pavel

  • Pavel,

My board is Rev D as well.

Tarball of the u-boot is attached.

    Thanks for all the help!

    Dave

  • Dave,

I need the MLO and u-boot.bin files. Can you attach them also.

    Best regards,
    Pavel

  • I've attached the u-boot.bin, but I cannot find an MLO file in the folder. I'm booting from NAND

Remove the .txt on the .bin file...wouldn't upload otherwise.

    Dave

    3681.u-boot.bin.txt

  • I built SD uboot.bin and MLO with the new u-boot. Attached.

  • Dave,

I replace my u-boot.bin file with yours on my SD card (I am booting from SD), and now I can reproduce the HDVPSS locks up on warm boot:

    Loading HDVPSS Firmware
FIRMWARE: I2cInit will be done by M3
FIRMWARE: Memory map bin file not passed
    Usage : firmware_loader <Processor Id> <Location of Firmware> <start|stop> [-mmap <memory_map_file>] [-i2c <0|1>]
    ===Mandatory arguments===
    <Processor Id>         0: DSP, 1: Video-M3, 2: Vpss-M3
<Location of Firmware> firmware binary file
    <start|stop>           to start/stop the firmware
    ===Optional arguments===
-mmap                  input memory map bin file name
    -i2c                   0: i2c init not done by M3, 1(default): i2c init done by M3
    FIRMWARE: isI2cInitRequiredOnM3: 1
FIRMWARE: Default memory configuration is used
    Firmware Loader debugging not configured
    Default FL_DEBUG: warning
Allowed FL_DEBUG levels: error, warning, info, debug, log
MemCfg: DCMM (Dynamically Configurable Memory Map) Version :  2.1.2.1

I think you updated your EZSDK 5.05.02.00 / PSP 04.04.00.01 u-boot with patches from the below ARAGO tree, is that correct? Which patches exactly you have applied on top of the default u-boot?

    http://arago-project.org/git/projects/?p=u-boot-omap3.git;a=summary

    Regards,
    Pavel

  • I didn't patch the original u boot,  I replaced it with the newer one.

    Dave

  • Dave,

I will check the patches one by one to see which one exactly is causing this lock up. I will let you know the result.

    Best regards,
    Pavel

  • Thanks Pavel. I appreciate it.

    Dave

  • Dave,

When I test the u-boot from the git://arago-project.org/git/projects/u-boot-omap3.git, the lock-up issue is reproduced without the new patches. I mean when I test with the v2010.06_TI81XXPSP_04.04.00.01 release (which is the same as the u-boot from EZSDK 5.05.02.00), the lock-up issue is reproduced.

Thus I suspect that the u-boot from the EZSDK have some memory map configuration, to be suitable with the EZSDK. I will check this with the PSP team.

Meanwhile, what I can recommend you is to use the u-boot from EZSDK 5.05.02.00:

    6457.u-boot-2010.06-psp04.04.00.01.zip

This u-boot correspond to this one from the arago-project tree:

    http://arago-project.org/git/projects/u-boot-omap3.git?p=projects/u-boot-omap3.git;a=commit;h=f8466a54a20c05484c1f3d179dfe7ed97e280ffd

Then you can manually apply all the patches from v2010.06_TI81XXPSP_04.04.00.01 to ti81xx-master that are valid for TI814x/TI81xx device and you are interested in:

    http://arago-project.org/git/projects/u-boot-omap3.git?p=projects/u-boot-omap3.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/ti81xx-master

  • Thanks Pavel,

That's the uboot I had been using. I followed your lead yesterday and started with that uboot as my baseline and added all the necessary patches (Except pcie...I don't need that in my final product). The problem of hanging did go away.

Thanks for checking on the memory map configuration...I think you're right about that.

I really appreciate the help! Let me know what you find out from the PSP folks...that will be very helpful. I'm going to look into how the new uboot got thru the Loading Kernel Image and Checksum so quickly...
