Migrating from OMAP3530 to DM3730

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM3730, OMAP3530

Migrating from the OMAP3530 to the DM3730 requires very few schematic changes.  One of the changes is to add a 1uF capacitor to the cap_vdd_bb_mpu_iva pin.  The only notes in the datasheet pertaining to this pin and this capacitor are for when the part is in one particular high speed operating point.  I am referencing Table 4-20 in the SPRS685D document.  If we do not plan to use this high speed mode, do we still need to have the capacitor?  What problems occur if we do not have this capacitor?

  • Hi Charles,

The capacitor connected to cap_vdd_bb_mpu_iva is decoupling capacitor for processor domains. The capacitor must be placed as close as possible to the ball. The capacitor at the output is required to stabilize the voltage. The presence of this capacitor provides stable work of the processor. If the capacitor absent I could not guarantee the stable work (it is 50:50 ). As I see the schematics of other dm3730 boards the capacitor presents.
