Several questions about DM8148 ISS

Hi,

I am Guy Shwartz and I try to work with the DM8148 ISS.

I have several general questions:

  •  Is there a newer version of the of the Imaging SubSystem (ISS) user guide (SPRUH30)? The one we have is from July 2012. We are interested in a more detailed description of the IPIPE/ISIF modules.

 

  • We are considering to use the DM36x tuning tool with DM8148. Are the image pipeline in DM36x and DM8148 identical?

a)     Can we use  the DM365 tuning tool for the Edge Enhancer, Green Imbalance Correction, Noise Filter  and color correction to configure the DM8148 IPIPE as well?

b)    Is there a tool or a plugin for (semi)automatic configuration of EE/GIC/NRF?  Currently, these modules can be configured only through registers setting.

  • The NRF module is not described in details and it is hard to tune it. Is there a more detailed description for the NRF?

 

  • The CFAI (demosaic) is not described at all. IS there a tuninig tool for it or any description? We would like to know on what algorithm the CFAI is based (reference to relevant literature).

 

  • We would like to  know which methods are used in  Chroma Artifact Reduction and Chroma Gain Suppression  modules (reference to paper). Also there is no tuning tool for it.

 

  • Is there a temporal noise filter implemented in IPIPE of DM8148? We have not seen any reference to it in the ISS users guide, but in the IPNC RDK web page there is temporal filter.

    Hello Guy Shwartz,

    Please read answers in RED. Also, can you confirm if you are using DM8148 or DM8127. DM8127 is the IPNC part which has the same ISS as DM8148, but you can expect better support on camera system such as drivers, tuning tool etc.

     RAJAT: There is no further update on the ISS user guide.

    • We are considering to use the DM36x tuning tool with DM8148. Are the image pipeline in DM36x and DM8148 identical?
    RAJAT: The image pipeline is identical. However I recomend using the DM812x (similar to DM8148) for this platform. For getting the tuning tool you should check with the local FAE.

    a)     Can we use  the DM365 tuning tool for the Edge Enhancer, Green Imbalance Correction, Noise Filter  and color correction to configure the DM8148 IPIPE as well?

    RAJAT: IPIPE between DM365 vs. DM8148 is similar.

    b)    Is there a tool or a plugin for (semi)automatic configuration of EE/GIC/NRF?  Currently, these modules can be configured only through registers setting.

    RAJAT: No.

    • The NRF module is not described in details and it is hard to tune it. Is there a more detailed description for the NRF?

     RAJAT: If you are talking about the noise filter in IPIPE, its a simple spatial domain filter. What information  are you looking for?

    • The CFAI (demosaic) is not described at all. IS there a tuninig tool for it or any description? We would like to know on what algorithm the CFAI is based (reference to relevant literature).

     RAJAT: This is TI proprietary information.

    • Is there a temporal noise filter implemented in IPIPE of DM8148? We have not seen any reference to it in the ISS users guide, but in the IPNC RDK web page there is temporal filter.

     RAJAT: There is no Temporal noise filter implementation in IPIPE. However there are few TNF options in the DM81xx SOC. For example HDVPSS VNF can do temporal + spatial filtering.

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

    We have more focused questions about several blocks in the ISS of the DM8148.

    Noise filter:

    The NRF configuratopn is mainly composed out of threshold table (THR) and intensity table (STR) and a spread factor (SPR).

    In the user manual, the meaning of these registers is not exactly clear for us.

    Can you calrify what is the role of each register and how to tune them?

    CFAI (demosaic):

    What is the meaning of the threshold and slope registers and how to configure them? What is the mixed threshold?

    How is the threshold calculated?

    CAR:

    It is not clear to us how to tune and conifugre CAR registers: IPIPE_CAR_HPF_THR IPIPE_CAR_HPF_SHF IPIPE_CAR_GN1_GAN IPIPE_CAR_GN1_SHF IPIPE_CAR_GN1_MIN IPIPE_CAR_GN2_GAN IPIPE_CAR_GN2_SHF IPIPE_CAR_FN2_MIN

    CGS:

    How to configure the gain and threshold for the CGS? How to configure threshold, gain and SHF registers?
