Why C6657 Ethernet interface speed is very slow(100kbps)?

Hi All,

Our reference design  c6657 EVM , the ethernet PHY chosen 88E1112, but we found that the ethernet interface debug rate is very slow (100kbps), and the associated test program execution error, it do not be tested.

Please help give some suggestion! Thanks!

  • Hi Xiaogang,

How did you measure the speed?  I guess the debug code is not optimized for speed.

    Atsushi

  • Hi Atsushi,

Acutally, everything is ok in 6657EVM when it run on the PHY of 88E1112 . But it's fault when we run ethernet on the PHY of  88E1111 which board  was built by us. BTW, speed was tested by the test module of windows in MCSDK.

    Thanks and Regard!

    Xiao Gang.

  • Hi Xiao Gang,

Now I've understood your problem.  Thank you for your clarification.

When we see slow rate of the GbE, due to the full duplex nature of the SGMII, I guess we have two possibilities to see the slowness.

    1. Due to high error rate (many packet drops), or
    2. Due to 802.3X flow control

Regarding the error rate, my recommendation is to check statistics counters.  For Rx direction (or ingress to C6657), C6657 EMAC has statistics counters.  Please refer Chapter 8 STATS Registers of SPRUHH1 (http://www.ti.com/litv/pdf/spruhh1).

Regarding the 802.3X flow control, please refer the section 2.9.1.5 IEEE 802.3X Based Receive Buffer Flow Control of the same manual.

    Atsushi

  • Hi  Atsushi,

Please kindly note that we can part number of  PHY from 88E1112  to  88E1111.  Original design of EVM is

88E1112.  Whether this change caused this error ? If yes, can we resolve this issue with your above answer?

    Thanks adn Regards!

    Xiao Gang.

  • Xiao Gang,

We're afraid that we cannot access to the datamanual of them.  We don't know differences between them.

    Atsushi
