AM335x EVM without the GP Daughterboard

I have the AM335x EVM, I have removed the display and disabled the display drivers. Is it possible to remove the GP Daughter Board and still have the main unit boot up ?

I know the Profile selection switch is on the GP board and without the board it currently doesn't work. Is this the only reason and can the setting be made permanent in the booter (how) or via jumpers on the main board.

The AM335x General Purpose EVM base board is not designed to operate alone without the daughterboard with the way it is configured for the GP EVM.

You will need to keep the daughterboard attached for proper funcationality.

Although this answers this particular question I would like to know what is required on the GP Daughter board in order for the main board to run.

I have looked at the schematics and the only this I can see that the booter may be using is the Profile Switch.

Has anyone managed to build a booter/kernel that doesn't require the GP Daughter board in order for the AM335x EVM to run ?

We are looking at designing our own board and would rather not have the Alteria chip on there when we are not using any of the GP Daughter board extras.
If the Alteria chip is needed in our design in order for it to work can anyone tell me what other bits of the GP Daughter board are required.

Hi Wayne,

You definitely do not need a profile selection CPLD on your own board. We have other EVM's that do not have this CPLD. Here is the link to different EVM board design files: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335xBoards

OK, Miroslav already answered that. I agree with him, plus that the Starter Kit is cheaper than the GP EVM.

Thank you both.

We are getting the Starter Kit in to evaluate.

It has only got Micro SD and I have just got in 2x 128GB full size SD cards to test in the EVM kit.
Anyone know if you can use >32GB in these boards :)

I managed to remove the LCD from the AM335x EVM without any problems, hopefully I can do the same with this.

The SK will come with two pre-loaded microSD cards. As far as I know 64GB SD cards have been tested succesfully with the AM335X. As for the LCD - you should be able to remove it. It's assembled on a carrier board with two flex cables (display and touchscreen) going to connectors on the main board.
