DM8168 NAND Boot Problem

Hello,

We are trying to boot DM8168 in our custom board from parallel NAND flash. The flash we are using is 16 bit 4Gb. The part number of the flash is MMT29F4G16ABADAH4-IT (Micron). You can find the datasheet of the device and corresponding schematics drawing in the attachments.

After start-up, we observe the UART channel of the device but there is no boot screen displayed on

CONTROL_STATUS register value is 0x00030312.
BOOTSTAT register value is 0x00000000.

We use the procedure described in the URL "http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/DM816x_AM389x_PSP_Flashing_Tools_Guide" for NAND programming.

Can you please check the connections in the schematics and tell us if there is any wrong one?

According to your explanation, it seems that there is no issue between NAND and DM8168 and you are able to write/read NAD accoriding to the link that you provided. I checked that the BOOT pins are OK .

SW3---->BTM[4:0] ==> 10010   (other pins should be 0 i.e. OFF)

But I cannot see if you selected NAND with CS, because I know that you have also NOR flash. Please check the schematics below http://support.spectrumdigital.com/boards/evm816x/reve/files/evm816x_Schematics_RevE.pdf

SW4---->NAND ON

Can you please verify that you enable NAND flash with CS0 ?

Hello,

As far as I understand, SW4 is used for selecting between NAND or NOR flash boot. Once SW4 is enabled for NAND flash, then it bypasses GPMC_CS0 signal to the CEn pin of the NAND device.

In my case, the GPMC_CS0 pin is directly connected to the flash so I guess there is no need to worry about that.

Hello again,

Problem solved! We were actually booting successful from the beginning, however we had connected the wrong UART to the computer.

After changing the UART port the boot screen displayed instantly.
