Hello,TI man.
I wanna know that the maximum H.265 encode/decode capability of a single C6678 chip.such as 3*720P60 h.265 encode max.
I didn't find such descriptions from doc,so be thankful to any reply.
Best regards.

Hi Young, HEVC encoder and decoder are still on Alpha stage further improvements on quality and performancd are expected. Latest MCSDK Video 2_2_0_23 has a transcoder HEVC which uses 4 chips for encoding 720p25 IBBP (or 1080p30 IPP) and 1 chip for decoding. Additionally, inside the same MCSDK video package, you can use PCIe H.265 encoder File to File demo for getting encoding MIPS at different resolutions.

Thank you,
Paula
uses 4 chips for encoding 720p25 IBBP
You mean 4 CHIPS,not 4 Cores?
That is just for a demo or limited by its perfomance, such as CPU bandwidth or something else?
I think C6678 has 8 DSP Cores,it should perform lots of HEVE encoding,such as 3 1080P30,even more.
Hi Young, yes I meant chips no cores. Each C6678 chip has 8 DSP cores.
Thank you,
Paula
Thank you.
i wanna ensure that 4 chips to perform a 720P25 H.265 encode.
It is to show a multi core/chip cooperation,or limited by IC's performance?
Hi Young, For our C66x H.264 HP encoder 1080p resolution, we uses ~8 cores. H.265 complexity is higher compared with H.264 HP because of the new tools (such as SAO), bigger/deeper CU and TU, more Intra modes, RDO, etc. Then more than 1 chip is currently required for HD resolutions. You can do some tradeoffs between video quality (and compression efficiency) vs. # CPU cycles through our configuration file.
thank you,
Paula
HI
anybody here?
Can one C6678 perform a 2*720P30 H.265 encode or 1*720P30 H.265 encode+1*720P30 H.265 decode?
Young, currently we are in Alpha release of HEVC codec, as I mentioned VQ improvements and performance optimization are still comming. However, the estimation is that for our HEVC GA release 2.5 shannon would be required for 1080p60 VC LD configuration. Then it would be possible 1*720p30 enc + 1*720p30 dec. This is a budget projection, final density numbers will be better known when we get closer to GA release.
thank you,
Paula
Hi, we don't have a GA version yet, but please send me the use cases (resolution, fps, LD or RA, etc) and I can you our current performance numbers.
Thank you,
Paula
Does C6678 have a GA version?
Does C6678 have a officially H.265 encode/decode capability?
Our usercase:Encode HD video to H.265 stream.such as 720P30,1080P30.
BR.
Hi Young,
1- HEVC encoder GA version is planned for June/July this year.
2- We are still working on performance improvements. However, you can test current HEVC enc/dec lib using our MCSDK video (http://software-dl.ti.com/sdoemb/sdoemb_public_sw/mcsdk_video/02_02_00_39/index_FDS.html).
3- is you use case for VC (LD), streaming or broadcast quality?
Thank you,
Paula
Thanks.
3- is you use case for VC (LD), streaming or broadcast quality?
Sorry for that I am a greenhand in H.265.What is the recommended config? Is VC(LD)?Are there some other config which will consume less cpu/ddr bandwidth, but with a lower video performance?
Hi Young, For H.265 we have typically 3 main types of configuration one is Low Delay (IPPP) for Video Conferencing type of application. Another one uses B-frames and a more complex GOP structure for Streaming type of use cases. Finally, a "Broadcast quality" with a more complex GOP and more VQ tools.
As you pointed it out, more tools and complexity increases VQ but needs more cycles (more cores for same fps). So I was wondering what was your use case, because depending on it the density of channels per cores could vary.
Thank you,
Paula
3 Main types.
As you said,it seems that Low Delay(IPPP) for video conferencing is least complex.
In this mode,What's the maximum H.265 encode capability of C6678?How many channels of 720P30 video can be encoded?
And in Broadcast quality,How many channels of 720P30 video can be encoded?
I prefer these two mode for H.265.
expecting for your reply.
BR.
Hi Young, we don't have official numbers that I can published on the forum. Please send me an internal note with your company name and region and I will put you in contact with our TI local support so they can share with you our HEVC encoder and decoder roadmap and current performance numbers.
thanks a lot for your understanding,
Paula
