100BASE-FX implementation using C6657

I'm trying to design an UDP/IP interface that is compliant with 100BASE-FX.

Can I simply connect a 10/100 PHY (TNETE2101 for example) to the SGMII pins on the C6657 and then connect the TX+/- and RX+/- differential PECL pins to a SFP module (which mates with the fiber optic cable)?

Thanks.

  • You can find devices that will bridge between the SGMII standard and the 100BASE-FX. The TNETE2101 is an obsolete part soI wouldn't recommend that device. Marvell has the 88E1112 that looks like it would do the job but we've never used it. You would have to contact Marvell directly for information. I'm sure there are other devices as well. I've also seen SPF modules that have a built in PHY allowing a direct connection to an SGMII.
