Supported operating points (OPP) on AM3874

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3874, TMS320DM8148

Hi,

We have AM3874 processor (AM3874BCYE100) on our custom board. We enabled dynamic voltage scaling, as explained in http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TI81XX_PSP_PM_DVFS_User_Guide. It seems to work properly, however we have some concerns about it because in datasheet for the processor there is note that OPP166 ARM/OPP120 CORE combination is "TBD" and there is no detailed explanation what does it actually mean. Does anyone know what is the status of this OPPs? On our board we are using heat sink and also active cooling when the temperature goes up.

"TBD" means To Be Defined. At the writing stage of the AM3874 datasheet, this OPP166 ARM/OPP120 CORE combination was still under test.

Looking at the DM814x datasheet (AM387x device is very similar to DM814x device), this OPP166 ARM/OPP120 CORE combination is supported (not TBD):

    http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tms320dm8148.pdf,

    Table 7-5. Supported OPP Combinations

So I think this combination should be supported for AM387x device also. I will double check with the AM387x HW team, and let you know their answer.

  • Hi Pavel,

Thank you for your update. I have already noticed that OPP166 is supported by DaVinci version of the processor. I assume there is no real difference on the silicon level between DM814x and AM387x, thus my assumption is Sitara version should also support this settings. However we should not really release a product with settings marked as "TBD" in datasheet. I am looking forward to see AM3874 datasheet update.

    Thanks,

    Greg

  • Hi Pavel,

Did you check the status with the HW team yet? We really want to know the answer.

  • Our Apps team is working on this issue. Sorry for the delay.

I received confirmation that OPP166 ARM/OPP120 CORE combination is supported and will be marked with "X" (not TBD) in the next version of the AM387x datasheet.

  • Pavel,

Do you know when we could expect datasheet fix?
