To add onto this, we've determined the requirements are VGA (640x480), 16-bit data, with a minimum 15fps, using JPEG2k. Our codecs show some performance numbers for the C6678, but the hopes were that we could use a subset part (less cores).

With this in mind, what processing power is required by our JPEG2K algorithm with these numbers? This will help us determine which subset part would suffice, and what % of the processor time is being placed on this algorithm.

Inside the Jpeg2k encoder data sheet you can find peak #Mcycles/sec used at different resolutions and configurations. This could give you a profiling idea for your use case. Alternatively, you can profile your clips using a Shannon EVM or Quad-shannon + JTAG + CCS J2K test application (which comes along with the codec)

From the datasheet I see it is supported up to 12-bit per color sample. I will ask if 16-bit is planned on future releases and let you know.

Hi Paula,

Thanks for aksing.  The customer says the data are 14 bit data, one colorplane (so, grayscale).  Thus a 640x480 image would contain 640*480*14 bits.

Hi John, thanks for asking.. I guess converting from 14bit to 12bit is not acceptable for them?
