Problem using CCS with Mistral 35x EVM board.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO, OMAP3530

Hi all,

I am using a Mistral omap 35x EVM board,  and a XDS510USB JTAG emulator (from Digital Spectrum).

When I try to configure the board in "CCStudio Setup", using the specific configuration

for the mistral board (which is included with the XDS510USB drivers), it gives an error:

"Error automatically generating board file. An invalid router family was specified".

It seems as if CCStudio setup doesn´t like the CS_DAP_PC router.

I´ve tried the configuration files for other boards with omap 3530, but all of them use internally the same values,

and give that same error.

Has anybody found that same problem? any suggestion?

Any known workaround?

Thank you very much,

Jose.

P.D: The CCStudio version is v3.3. and the emullator drivers are "setupCCSPlatinum_v30327A"

(downloaded from Spectrum Digital webpage)

  • Which CCS Service Release are you using?  I believe that service release 10 is required.

  • This error does sound like you are using an older version of CCS 3.3 that may not have support for the OMAP, I believe OMAP3 was originally added in SR2, but updated in SR7, so I would suggest at least migrating to SR7 and trying this again (though I would go for SR10 while you are at it). I can connect to the Mistral EVM with my Blackhawk USB560m with CCS 3.3 SR9, do note that you will want to adjust the dip switches on the board to connect properly, in particular SW4 on the main board should have 10000100 set as opposed to the default of 10010000 (for Samsung DDR).

  • I recently downloaded CCS v3.3.38.2. When I get to the CCS setup window there is no factory board configuration file for the OMAP3530. Have I downloaded an old version of CCS? How do I check the SR number of my CCS?

  • hdp: Which emulator hardware are you using?
Generally specking, you will need to download and install the driver software for the particular emulation pod which should have the cc_setup board configuration for the OMAP3530.
For instance, if you are using a Spectrum Digital XDS510USB emulator, you will also need to download their latest driver.
    http://support.spectrumdigital.com/index.html?osCsid=c5bdaeef02a378ffa248f2bff7a81c3a

The same is true for the Blackhawk DSP emulators.

Once you install these drivers, invoking cc_setup should highlight options for board configurations.

  • I'm also having this problem.  I downloaded the latest version of the CCS trial software (v3.3_Build_3.3.38.2_FET) and installed the latest drivers from spectrum digital for the XDS510 USB but it still gives me the error.

    UPDATE:

After digging around a little bit, it seems that the GEL file that the CS_DAP_PC_0 is pointing at (omap3430_cs_dap_pc.gel) is missing and there isn't one specifically for the omap3530 either...

  • Unfortunately, I do not have my hardware with me right now, but I can give this a try tomorrow and report back if no one else can offer more insight into this issue.

  • Which error are you getting now? Also which GEL file do you have associated with the ARM and DSP in your CCS setup? There are a number of OMAP3430 GEL files in the C:\CCStudio_v3.3\cc\gel but it seems that by default there are none that are marked OMAP3530, I have used the OMAP3430 GEL files in here successfully in the past though.

I think your problem is the CCS version, that v3.3_Build_3.3.38.2_FET is an old version of CCS 3.3, and by the version number looks to be the initial release (pre dating the first service release and the first OMAP3). As mentioned earlier in the thread the OMAP3 requires service release 7 (3.3.67) at a minimum (I would suggest SR 11, the latest as of today), so the version you have will likely never connect to an OMAP3 properly. Unfortunately the free evaulation version of CCS is not able to be upgraded like this, so it seems you will not be able to work with the OMAP3 from this version, you would have to purchase a full version of CCS with which you can get the latest service release.

  • Hi,

I am feeling the same heat. I have a Mistral solutions OMAP3530 board and a XDS510PP jtag Emulator(From digital Spectrum).

When I try to configure the board in "CCStudio Setup", using the specific configuration

for the mistral board (which is included with the XDS510PP drivers), it gives an error:

"Error automatically generating board file. An invalid router family was specified".

I am Using Code_Composer_Studio_v3.3_Build_3.3.38.2_FET and setupCCSPlatinum_v30329 drivers from Spectrum Digital.

How did you solve this issue?

    Hopefully

    Jack

  • The free evaluation version of CCS is not capible of connecting to an OMAP3 device due to it being locked at an older version (the error message is indicating it does not recognize the emulation logic/router inside the part), to connect to an OMAP3 with CCS you would need to purchase the full version of CCS and use a newer service release.

  • Bernie,
I am using the internal download of the Platinum edition and have the same issue using 3.3.38.2. The  router line is empty when I select OMAP3530 XDS560 board. How can this be resolved?

  • Needs the latest service pack, then the proper Blackhawk drivers and all is well... :-)
