DM3730 power consumption

I would like to know the idle power consumption for DM3730 system. Although there is a spreadsheet to calculate the DM3730 power consumption, but we could never achieve that number in spreadsheet, using TI Android BSP 2.3.6. Not sure if the spreadsheet is misleading or the BSP is not doing its job properly.

Compared with Motorola DEFY phone (similar architecture from TI, Android 2.3.6 ), DEFY could achieve less than 50mA in idle mode (do not include display)

Using TI BSP, our DM3730 setup could achieve 150mA in the idle mode (Process + DDR+ PMIC, do not include display)

What could be the cause of this huge difference? What should be our reason power target for DM3730 setup?

Hi Hongtao,

The Power Estimation Spreadsheet gives true data for all kinds of DM3730 packages including POP version. I would like to note that the spreadsheet shows power consumption data only about DM37x including ARM, IVA and SGX but the POP up memory is not part of the DM37x and its power consumption should be added to obtain the overall power consumption. I would like to note that the spreadsheet gives ability to adjust many parameters which could change the overall power consumption. One of the most important parameters for the consumption is ARM % utilization but only on this spreadsheet it could be adjusted:

The board configuration and the number of pull-ups have matter for the power consumption. If there are some additional peripheries the consumption will rise.

About DDR consumption - there are different DDR memory chips and you should check the power consumption for the current one which you are using.

The overall power consumption of 150 mA in the idle mode seems in the reasonable range.

The table shows 654mW in idle (276.5mW on Battery + 378.2mW on 3.3V). Is this what we should expect? What would be the main reason that Motorola DEFY consume only 1/3 of DM3730 platform?

Is there a way we could achieve similar result (by turn off some unused block)? I don't see any significant difference between DEFY and DM3730 platform.

Hi Hongtao,

This power consumption seems very high for idle state. I guess that some of the power domains are in ON power state. It is important to know what other peripheries there are. Is there USB connected because if true the system could not go to sleep.

You can verify for all power domains how many times have been in each one state by:

cat /debug/pm_debug/count
