OMAP3530 ES3.0 complete technical reference manual

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP3530

Hi,

I am having beagle board revision C3.0 and it has OMAP3530 ES 3.0.

I would like to have OMAP3530 ES3.0 complete technical reference manual.

1. Can anyone provide exact link to the TRM doc?

2. What is ARM Cortex-A8 and DSP 64x+ revisions used in  OMAP3530 ES3.0

It will be great if anyone gives the exact links to get the above docs.

TIA

The current/latest version of the TRM and its chapters can be found through this wiki article. There is not a specific TRM available for ES3.0 silicon, but rather the differences are defined in the silicon errata, also see this migration wiki article.

The CortexA8 in the latest ES3.1 (as well as ES3.0) uses r1p3 revision, the C64x+ revision is the same.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your help but I could not able to get ARM Cortex-A8 r1p3 revision doc at http://infocenter.arm.com/help/index.jsp

I aslo looking to get Instruction set manual for both ARM Cortex-A8 and DSP 64x+.

    Could you please help ?

    TIA

I am not sure why it is not listed, I am not very familiar with the ARM core revision differences, you may want to ask ARM.

The instruction set for the ARM v7 architecture (used in Cortex A8) is not publicly posted, you have to register with ARM and log in to gain access, it looks like you can log in and download it from here. For the C64x+ DSP the instruction set can be found here.

  • Hi Bernie,

I have queried ARM regarding ARM Cortex-A8 r1p3 revision they are saying that they have not released any such revision for ARM Cortex-A8. And they asked to consult TI on this to know the exact revision.

For arm instruction set manual I have registered with ARM and tried to download but getting and error " Permission Denied You do not have access to this area of the site. "

    Any help is appreciated.

    TIA

This sounds like there is some confusion on ARM's side, it is possible that this is considered confidential and not something they can talk about, but I am fairly certain that r1p3 is an actual revision, as it is mentioned all over, even in their own documentation.

Unfortunately all of this documentation is owned by ARM so there is not much TI can do in regards to accessing the ARM website, if you cannot get assistance from ARM on this you may want to work with your local TI contact/sales office to see if an NDA may be in order.

I recommend using the ARM Cortex-A8 r1p1 Technical Reference Manual (TRM) because it documents the latest minor revision preceding the revision you are interested in.  Most likely there were insignificant documentation changes over the course of two minor revisions and that the majority of the changes were bug-fixes to the hardware.  In the pertinent TI errata, SPRZ278, it shows on pages 5-6 that the OMAP3530 used Cortex-A8 r1p1 in silicon revision 2.0.  It also shows that the ROM revision has not been altered since, giving cause to believe that minimal documentation gaps exist between r1p1 - r1p3.

I am in the process of designing a custom board around the OMAP3530 without the package-on-package memory option.  You can email me directly at byron.formwalt@gmail.com or look me up on FaceBook if you would like to exchange experiences.
