C6746 DSP HPI in 8 bit mode

Hi Champs

A customer is looking to use the HPI of C6746 DSP in 8 bit mode.

The data sheet shows only 16 bit mode support but says configurable. Can you please confim if this is feasible?

And if there are any references we can share?

E2e:

Thanks!

Best Regards,

Feroz

  • Hi Feroz,

The C6746 HPI can only be used in 16-bit mode. Can you show me where in documentation it says this is configurable?

    Thanks,

    Sunil

  • Hi Sunil,

Thanks for looking into this. It is actually a migration of the customer system from C5502 and C674x. Since C5502 card was using  8 bit mode, they want to retian the same on C674x....That is the context here

I see below in data sheet 5.2.2 section for HPI....i also see some references to half word accesses.

So isn;t it possible to do a 8 bit HPI with this DSP?

    Best Regards

    Feroz

  • Hi Feroz,

The "configurable" in the datasheet does not refer to the data bus. This particular IP only supports 16-bit mux mode and is quite different from the C5502 HPI as was expressed in your earlier e2e thread on this topic. The half-words refer to 16-bit half-words for 32-bit internal data register - similar to the 8-bit operation in C5502.

    Rgds,

    Sunil
