SD partitions vs sectors

Hi,

I am a little confused about the partitions and sectors that should be set up on an SD card for booting a blaze tablet.  The steps listed here:

http://www.omappedia.org/wiki/SD_Configuration

seem to indicate that there should be 2 or 3 partitions (boot, rootfs, [media]).  However, the steps listed here:

http://www.omappedia.com/wiki/Android_eMMC_Booting

indicate that there should be 8 sectors ( xloader, bootloader, recovery, boot, system, cache, userdata, media).

What's the difference between a partition and a sector?  The instructions to set up the partitions are well described, but when I follow them where are the sectors?  How can I have the right partitions AND the right sectors?  Thank you.

Peter
