PRU basics and beginning

hello everybody

I just started dealing with the PRU section and especially to work on AM335x kit.

And actually i have not much experience with PRU's so can somebody kindly elaborate the basics or how to start the things like how to deal with PASM assembler, loading and executing PRU examples??

And also i was reading about PRU's and all so got to know about this popular link https://github.com/beagleboard/am335x_pru_package which includes some docs, 3 examples etc........and also i installed PRU software development kit from ti website which include lots of pre build examples, PASM assembler and all.........so kindly somebody please elaborate the difference??

And for the basics to how to start, how to use assembler, loading and exceution of example........i got one website where someone explained the PRU for beaglebone step wise.........like starting SSH for beaglebone.....then using git clone command

git clone git://github.com/beagleboard/am335x_pru_package.git and so on.

i tried to follow these steps but cannot see any progress.

So it would be really nice if somebody can throw some light on this....or may provide some links or pdf's to get started with PRU's and all.

Have you checked the "readme.txt" on https://github.com/beagleboard/am335x_pru_package?

"The hardware / software modules and descriptions referred to in this package are *NOT SUPPORTED* by Texas Instruments (www.ti.com / e2e.ti.com).

These materials are intended for do-it-yourself (DIY) users who want to use the PRU at their own risk without TI support. "Community" support is offered at BeagleBoard.org/discuss."

Are you referring to this? This software was designed for the original PRUSS that was on AM18x processors and it's DSP-counterparts (OMAP-L138 and C6748 and their derivatives). The AM335x has a newer PRU subsystem, so those examples would require porting to function on the AM335x.

As Biser mentioned we do not broadly support the PRU and your best bet is to work with the community on it.

firstly thanks a lot for your reply. And yes i read that it is not supported by Texas Instruments....and actually it just come up as i was searching for some useful material and pdf's....so thought of trying.

But anyways i would be very grateful to you if you can provide me some data about the introduction with PRU's and how to get started with assembler, loading and execution of examples??
