Could you help me on understanding RTA (legacy) Statistics Data?

Hi,

I use CCS v5.5.0 on Windows 7 computer. The project is on page 118, from sptr423i.pdf, C5000 DSP. It is about Time-Slice Scheduling. I have set up Tconf to add three tasks, 2 PRDs. On "Printf Logs" column, I can see task 0, 1 and 2 print messages.

I do not understand why the data inside orange frame are 0's, PRD0 total is '1'. Could you tell me about that?

Thanks,

  • The project is to implement time sliced task. I seems it works now. Below is the printf log. Why the "Statistics Data" shows count 0 for all the tasks? PRD1 has no total number? Thanks,

  • Excuse me. I forgot to add that the project is for C5535. The results are from downloading to eZDSP5535 USB.

  • Hi,

If you look at spru404q.pdf "TMS320C55x DSP/BIOS 5.x Application Programming Interface".  On page 390 it talks about the STS Module.  This module is what is used to display the "count, total, max" values above.

  • Thank you very much. After reading the document, I still have many questions.

I do not find STS object in the .c file. There is an IDL_busyObj STS object in slice.tcf. Who creates this object? I find that I cannot delete it. Every project has one such STS object? I remember that BIOS can remove non-use object.

    Thanks,

  • Did you open up your .tcf file with the configuration gui tool?  Under STS objects you should find an STS object for every Hwi object that is created.  This is automatically added by BIOS.

  • I have a simple time slice project, which mimic time slice for tasks. This project is from a BIOS 5 document example. Has it Hwi object? I do not see STS object except the default one.

    The project is for 5535.

    Thanks,

  • Although my first post shows that PRD0 has total '1', I most see it shows '0'. What is the meaning of it? I do not find spru404q.pdf talks about it.

  • Understand that you are on a legacy version of BIOS that isn't actively being worked on or supported.  I'm trying my best to recall something that is 6 or 7 years ago.

My best guess is that there's a STS created on that object and some operations done on the STS.  As far as I can tell Total and Max for PRD objects and TSK objects probably don't make a whole lot of sense.  The count value should be the number of times it gets executed.

On Page 391 it says the below.  That is why you are seeing this in the RTA.

    Default STS Tracing

In the RTA Control Panel, you can enable statistics tracing for the following modules by marking the appropriate checkbox. You can also set the HWI Object Properties to perform various STS operations on registers, addresses, or pointers. Except for tracing TSK execution, your program does not need to include any calls to STS functions in order to gather these statistics. The default units for the statistics values are shown in Table Table 2-6.

Hwis require a monitor in order for them to be tracked.

Sorry, I'm probably not helping much but there's not much support for legacy BIOS.
