DM385 processor and Sony IMX172 image sensor using SN65LVDS324.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM385

Hello,

My customer is desiging interface circuit between DM385 processor and Sony IMX172 image sensor using SN65LVDS324. The reference circuit on the datasheet of SN65LVDS324 shows an example using IMX136. However, it seems that IMX136's HSYNC / VSYNC pin is opened. This means that there is no input signal for HSYNC / VSYNC of image sensor. SN65LVDS324 generate HSYNC / VSYNC only for processor. Is it possible that image sensor can generate data signal without receiving any HSYNC / VSYNC signal ? I think TI's SN65LVDS324 reference circuit is designed based on no HSYNC / VSYNC signal into image sensor.Sony told that the image sensor IMX172 they are about to use only provide slave mode (HSYNC, VSYNC input) and it doesn't work without HSYNC / VSYNC input

Best wishes

Carter

  • Carter Liu,

It is possible to work without HSYNC and VSYNC, provided the imaging device supports Embedded sync mode. But in case of Sony sensor discrete sync mode is used I believe(not confident. But most of the cases I saw discrete sync).

Please confirm on the sync mode supported by your Imaging device.

  • Ravikiran,

thanks for your reply, here I get Sony IMX172's Mode 3:  4K2K, 14.99 frame/s, 12-bit A/D conversion, 12-bit length output, 4 ch output, and the sequence diagram is in the pdf document, could you please tell me whether the SN65LVDS324 can receive the signals from IMX172 properly?

  • According to Sony's comment on modes supported by IMX172, it should support SN65LVDS324. I am not sure if you are facing any kind of comaptibility issues. (I feel it should not be). May be you have  to check pin compatibility, by gin though the data sheet of IMX172

  • Dear ravikiran,
    Hello,
I really thank you for your help and concern.
    - Sony IMX-172 supports below 6 modes.
      . Mode 0 : 12-bit length, 10 ch output (12M, 34.97 f/s)
      . Mode 1 : 10-bit length, 10 ch output (12M, 39.96 f/s)
      . Mode 2 : 12-bit length,   8 ch output (4K2K, 29.97 f/s)
      . Mode 3 : 12-bit length,   4 ch output (4K2K, 14.99 f/s)
      . Mode 4 : 10-bit length, 10 ch output (4K2K, 59.94 f/s)
      . Mode 5 : 12-bit length,   4 ch output (1080p (4K2K binning), 59.94 f/s)
(* Frame rate can be down to half with register setting)
I think it's not possible to use other modes except Mode 3 & Mode 5 because of LVDS324's performance limit.
So the customer wants to use 4-ch subLVDS (4-lane).But for Sony products the datasheet seems only supports the  parallel mode,I don't know is it really like that?

I'm not sure if LVDS324's "Sony LVDS 10 or 12 bit parallel mode" is compatible with IMX-172's Mode 3 (4 ch subLVDS) because of different channel numbers. It looks like LVDS324 only support 10 or 12 channel mode for Sony. And the figure 2 (functional block diagram) shows different path between Aptina and Sony.
Aptina receives 4-ch and outputs 16-bit parallel.

    Sorry for my poor English!

    Best Regards

    Carter

  • Hi All,.

Was there any update news betweens LVDS324 to IMX172 please ? thanks
