DM385 Codec resolution question

Dear Engineers

My platform is IPNC_DM385_IMX136_V3.5 and the codec versions are listed below.

  REL.500.V.H264AVC.D.HP.IVAHD.02.00.08.00

  REL.500.V.H264AVC.E.IVAHD.02.00.04.01

  REL.500.V.MJPEG.D.IVAHD.01.00.07.00

  REL.500.V.MJPEG.E.IVAHD.01.00.09.00

  REL.500.V.MPEG4.D.IVAHD.01.00.11.00

  REL.500.V.MPEG4.E.SP.IVAHD.01.00.00.05

Using DM385 and FPGA, i'd like to get 4-ch 720p30 YUV type camera input.

FPGA will merge 4-ch image to 5120x720p30 or 2560x1440p30.

DM385 will get merged image using Camera parallel interface or VIN[0].

My question is :

Can DM385 video codec support 5120x720p30 or 2560x1440p30 ?

Thanks in advance.

Hennessy

  • Hennessy,

    Maximum resolution supported by the selected codecs are as follows,

    REL.500.V.H264AVC.D.HP.IVAHD.02.00.08.00 = 4096 x 4096
    REL.500.V.H264AVC.E.IVAHD.02.00.04.01 = 4096 x 4096
    REL.500.V.MJPEG.D.IVAHD.01.00.07.00 = 4096 x 4096
    REL.500.V.MJPEG.E.IVAHD.01.00.09.00 = 4320 x 4096
    REL.500.V.MPEG4.D.IVAHD.01.00.11.00 = 2048 x 2048
    REL.500.V.MPEG4.E.SP.IVAHD.01.00.00.05 = 2048 x 2048

    So, from the above information you can go ahead using H264 or MJPEG for resolution 2560x1440

  • Dear Santoshkumar S K

    I'd like to ask you another question about DM385 Video codec capability.

    Can DM385 H.264 video codec encode 720p30 4-CH Separately.

    If not, what is the best combination to encode 720p30 4-CH ?

    For example

        720p30 2-CH    with H.264

        720p30 2-CH    with Mpeg4

    Thanks in advance.

    BR

  • Hennessy,

    H264 Encoding : Each channel of 720p30 takes around ~100MHz of HDVICP2 IP (slight variation depending on encoder's configuration). So. please check your part for the HDVICP2 MHz and calculate the number of channels possible.

    For eg., DM385 speed ranges available are,

    DEVICE SPEED RANGE:
    01 = 290-MHz HDVICP2
    11 = 410-MHz HDVICP2
    21 = 450-MHz HDVICP2

    If I consider your DM385 with speed ranges 11/12, then 4 Channels of 720p30 ( 100Mhz x 4 = 400 MHz which is less than 410/450) is possible with H264 encoding.

    And to know the specific codec's performance, please refer to the respective codec's data sheet available with release package.

    Thanks,

    Santosh
